How did it all begin?<\/span><\/h2><\/div>

In 1999 the Chamber of Commerce (CCI) Nuremberg for Central Franconia started the EUREM initiative with the first practical training “Energy Manager (CCI)” in Germany. <\/span> EUREM was developed between 2003 and 2005 as part of an EU project of the Nuremberg Chamber of Commerce (lead), the German-Portuguese Chamber of Commerce in Lisbon (DUAL), The Energy Institute in London and the Economic Chamber Austria (WK\u00d6) in Vienna. <\/span><\/p>\n

With EUREM.NET – Training and Network of European Energy Managers – an EU follow-up project – this training and networking program has been implemented in nine other EU countries between 2006 and 2009. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

Where did the first EUREM training took place?<\/span><\/h2><\/div>

The first EUREM training sessions were held in Germany, Great Britain, Austria and Portugal in 2004 and in Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Italy, Poland, Slovenia, Spain and the Czech Republic in 2008 . <\/span>Ten EUREM provider out of these thirteen countries have joined together in 2009 to create the EUREM consortium. The consortium was established to regularly carry out EUREM trainings and to spread the registered trademark EUREM worldwide even after the EU funding expires.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

How has EUREM become more widespread?<\/span><\/h2><\/div>

To support businesses in identifying and implementing energy efficiency measures, the European Union funded the roll-out of the EUREM training programme in six further Member States and candidate countries in South-Eastern Europe. In May 2013, the EUREMplus project \u2013 initiated by the Nuremberg Chamber of Industry and Commerce and co-funded by the EU \u2013 was launched. Its aim was to establish EUREM in Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Poland, Romania and Cyprus in order to support small and medium-sized manufacturing companies in these countries in developing operational energy efficiency measures. To this end, partner institutions were recruited in each country, which adapted the EUREM training to country-specific needs and introduced the courses in their respective countries. The new course providers were supported by the EUREM partners from Germany (Nuremberg), Austria (Vienna) and the Czech Republic (Prague) and were expected to continue running the courses independently after an initial start-up phase. As part of the project, the first practical training sessions were held in the participating countries. Following the official end of the project, some of the providers continued to run the training sessions independently.<\/p>\n

Thanks to the EUREMplus project, the EUREM training programme was expanded to include six additional partner countries, bringing the total to 30. As part of the project, more than 100 people from the newly joined partner countries took part in the first training sessions. In the project evaluation, investments totalling around 48 million euros were attributed to the practical projects developed. For the practical projects evaluated in the EUREMplus project, annual energy-saving potential totalling around 155,000 MWh and calculated CO\u2082 reduction potential of around 83,000 tonnes were reported. The project also supported professional exchange and networking amongst the EUREM graduates of that time.<\/p>\n<\/div>

EUREMnext project<\/h2><\/div>

Within the follow-up project EUREMnext, the EUREM training could be introduced in another 6 countries (Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Estonia, Latvia, Serbia & Turkey). The actors from the new countries were supported by the established EUREM partners in Austria, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Greece and Spain. The EU-funded project “EUREMnext – Taking European Energy Managers to next efficiency levels by implementing energy audit recommendations”, started on 1st<\/sup> March 2018, headed by the Nuremberg Chamber of Commerce and Industry as the applicant and coordinator of the 13 partners from 12 countries. The 40-month project was funded by the Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme of the European Commission under Grant Agreement No. 785032.<\/p>\n
